Privacy Policy

Effective October 8, 2026 · Last updated October 8, 2026

This is the personal website of Dmitry Yaranov, MD, FACC. This policy explains, in plain words, what the site collects, why, where it goes, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • We only get what you choose to send: your email address for the newsletter, or your name, email and message through the contact form.
  • No analytics, no advertising trackers, and no cookies set by this site.
  • We never sell your information or share it for targeted ads.
  • You can unsubscribe, or ask us to delete your information, at any time.

Who we are

This website is run by Dmitry Yaranov, MD ("we", "us" or "Dr. Yaranov"), with help from a small web team. "Personal information" means information that identifies you or could reasonably be linked to you, such as your name or email address. Our Terms of Use and Medical Disclaimer also apply.

What we collect

You can read every page without telling us who you are. We get personal information only when you choose to send it, plus the basic technical details every website receives.

WhatWhenWhy
Your email addressYou join the newsletterTo send you the newsletter
Your name, email address, chosen topic and messageYou send the Contact page formTo read and answer your message
Whatever you write in an emailYou email us directlyTo answer you
IP address, browser and device type, page and timeAutomatically, on any visitTo deliver pages and keep the site secure and free of spam

Both forms send what you type to a small service run by the site's web team. It adds newsletter addresses to Listmonk, the mailing list tool that keeps the list and sends the emails, and puts contact messages in a private inbox for Dr. Yaranov.

What we do not collect

  • No analytics or tracking. The site has no analytics tools, no advertising pixels and no social media tracking code.
  • No cookies from us. The site itself does not set cookies. YouTube may set some if you play a video (see below).
  • No biometric identifiers. We do not collect, store or use biometric identifiers or biometric information (such as face geometry, fingerprints, voiceprints, or retina or iris scans) as defined in the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14).
  • No accounts, passwords or payment details. There is nothing to sign in to and nothing to buy.
  • No outside font services. Fonts load from the site's own server.

Your health information

This website is for education. It is not a patient portal, and it is not part of the systems of any hospital, clinic, health plan or other organization covered by HIPAA, the federal health privacy law, so HIPAA protections do not apply to what you send here.

Please do not send medical records, test results or details about your health through the forms or by email. Writing to Dr. Yaranov here does not create a doctor-patient relationship; see our Medical Disclaimer. If you are his patient, use the contact options your care team gave you. In an emergency, call 911. If you send health details anyway, we use them only to reply and will delete them if you ask.

Browser storage

The site keeps up to three tiny notes in your own browser's storage, only so the newsletter invitation does not keep appearing. They hold nothing that identifies you and are never sent to us.

NameWhat it doesHow long it lasts
hs-subscribedRemembers that you joined the newsletter, so we stop inviting youUntil you clear your browser data
hs-xi-dismissedRemembers when you closed the invitation, so it stays away for 3 daysUntil you clear your browser data (ignored after 3 days)
hs-xi-seenRemembers that the invitation already showed during this visitUntil you close the tab or browser

You can clear these at any time in your browser settings. The site works the same without them.

Other services and links

  • Hosting. The site runs on Railway, a cloud hosting company, which may keep server logs (such as IP address, browser type, page and time) for security and operations.
  • YouTube videos. Videos on the For Patients page play on this site in YouTube's privacy enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. Then YouTube, owned by Google, receives your IP address and browser details and may set cookies.
  • Instagram reel. The home page plays one of Dr. Yaranov's Instagram reels. Our server finds the reel's current link, and your browser loads the video straight from Instagram's servers, so Instagram, owned by Meta, may receive your IP address and browser details. We add no Instagram tracking code.
  • Links to other sites. Links to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Substack, Reddit, news outlets and journals take you off this site, where their own privacy policies apply.

How we use and share it

We use personal information only to send the newsletter you asked for, answer your messages and keep a record of the conversation, keep the site secure and free of spam, and meet our legal duties.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising (ads based on what you do across other sites or apps). We do not use it to build profiles or to make automated decisions about you.

We share it only with the service providers that run the site and newsletter for us, who may use it only for that work; when the law requires it, such as a valid court order; to protect safety or prevent fraud; or with your permission.

The site does not track you across other sites, so a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal has nothing to switch off. If your browser sends one, we treat it as an opt out request anyway.

Newsletter emails

Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link. One click takes you off the list, and we honor it promptly, well within the 10 business days the federal CAN-SPAM Act allows. You can also unsubscribe by emailing us. Subject lines and sender names are always honest, and we never give your address to anyone else for their marketing. Our mailing tool may count opens and clicks in total, to show which topics help most, never to profile you.

How long we keep it

  • Newsletter address: until you unsubscribe. After that we may keep the address on a do not email list, only so you are never emailed again by mistake. Ask, and we will delete it completely.
  • Contact messages and emails: as long as we need to answer you and keep a reasonable record of the conversation. Messages we no longer need are deleted.
  • Server logs: kept for a limited time by our hosting company under its own practices.
  • Browser storage: stays in your browser as shown above, until you clear it.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards for a site of this size: every page and form travels over encrypted HTTPS, the forms ask only for what they need, access to the newsletter list and inbox is limited to the people who run the site, and the site holds no passwords or payment data. No website can promise perfect security, so please do not send anything highly sensitive.

If a security breach ever affects your personal information, we will notify you without unreasonable delay, as the Illinois Personal Information Protection Act (815 ILCS 530) requires, and we will follow the notice rules of any other state law that applies.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • show you the personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy;
  • correct it if it is wrong;
  • delete it;
  • stop newsletter emails, at any time.

To ask, email contact@hearttransplantdoc.com from the address you used with us. We may ask a simple question to confirm it is you. We will respond within 45 days; if we need more time, we will tell you why, and it will be no more than another 45 days. If we cannot do what you ask, for example because the law requires us to keep something, we will explain why, and you can ask us to look again by replying. Requests are free, and we will never treat you differently for using your rights.

Visitors from other US states

This policy is written under Illinois law, but people visit from everywhere. California, Tennessee, Virginia, Colorado, Texas and other states give their residents extra privacy rights. Many of those laws apply only to larger businesses, but we honor the rights above for every visitor, wherever you live.

For California residents: in the last 12 months we collected identifiers (name, email and IP address) and message content, from you, for the purposes above. We have not sold personal information or shared it for targeted advertising, and that includes anyone under 16.

Washington, Nevada and some other states also protect consumer health data. We do not ask for it; if you send some, we use it only to reply, never sell it, and will delete it if you ask.

Visitors outside the US

If you visit from the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place with similar laws:

  • Our reasons: your consent for the newsletter, which you can withdraw by unsubscribing; and our legitimate interest in answering your messages and keeping the site secure.
  • Your rights: access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and a portable copy, plus the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Please contact us first so we can help.
  • Transfers: the site is run from the United States, so what you send is transferred to and processed there, where privacy laws may differ from yours. We protect it as this policy describes.

Children

This site is meant for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it promptly.

Which law applies

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and of the United States. That does not take away any privacy rights the law where you live gives you. Other legal terms are in our Terms of Use.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and its "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, such as a new use of your email address, we will say so clearly on the site or in the newsletter before it takes effect.

Contact

For questions, requests or concerns about your privacy, email contact@hearttransplantdoc.com with "Privacy" in the subject line.
