Terms of Use

Effective October 8, 2026 · Last updated October 8, 2026

These terms explain the rules for using this website, which is run by Dmitry Yaranov, MD, FACC (“Dr. Yaranov”). They cover every page, form and newsletter email on the site.

The short version. This site teaches. It does not treat. Nothing here is medical advice, and reading it or writing to Dr. Yaranov does not make you his patient. In an emergency, call 911. You are welcome to learn from the site and share links to it, but please do not copy the content for profit. Patient stories are real but individual, and results vary. Illinois law governs these terms.

1. Accepting these terms

By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. If you are under 18, please use the site with a parent or guardian, and do not send personal information through the forms if you are under 13.

2. Education, not medical advice

Everything on this site is for general education about heart failure, heart transplant, mechanical circulatory support, cardiac amyloidosis and related topics. It is not medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and it is not a substitute for care from your own doctor. Using the site, subscribing to the newsletter, sending a message or following Dr. Yaranov on social media does not create a doctor and patient relationship. Always talk with your own care team before you start, stop or change any treatment.

The full medical disclaimer is on the Medical Disclaimer page and is part of these terms.

3. Emergencies

If you think you or someone else may be having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away. Do not use the contact form, email, the newsletter or social media messages for urgent medical needs. They are not watched for emergencies. If you are already a patient of a heart failure or transplant program, call your care team using the number they gave you.

4. Who owns the content

The text, photographs, images, illustrations, animations, videos, logos, the Heart Transplant Doc name and the design of this site belong to Dr. Yaranov or to the people and organizations who license them to him. They are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws.

Some medical illustrations are used under Creative Commons licenses. Each one is credited on the page where it appears, and it stays under its own license terms. These terms do not change those licenses.

You may view, download and print pages for your own personal, non commercial use. Sharing links to any page is welcome, and so are short quotes with credit and a link back. Anything beyond that, such as republishing, selling, editing or reusing the content in a course, product or other website, needs written permission first. Please do not use Dr. Yaranov’s name, image or brand in a way that suggests he endorses you, a product or a service.

5. Acceptable use

Please use the site in a lawful and fair way. You agree not to:

  • use the site for anything unlawful, harmful or fraudulent;
  • scrape, copy or collect the content in bulk to resell it, build a competing service, or build or train a commercial dataset or AI model without written permission;
  • try to hack, break, overload or disrupt the site, get around its security, or reach parts of it that are not meant to be public;
  • upload or send viruses or other harmful code;
  • send spam, abusive messages or false information through the forms; or
  • pretend to be someone else, or suggest a connection with Dr. Yaranov that does not exist.

Access may be blocked for anyone who breaks these rules.

6. What you send through the contact form and newsletter

When you use the contact form or sign up for the newsletter, please give accurate information, including an email address that is yours. The contact form is for speaking, consulting, media, partnerships and educational collaborations. Please do not send medical records, test results or other confidential health details. The form is not a secure medical channel, and Dr. Yaranov cannot give personal medical advice through it.

Dr. Yaranov reads messages but does not promise to respond to every one, or by any deadline. By sending a message, you give permission for what you send to be stored and used to read it, reply to you and handle your request. Unless you both agree otherwise in writing, sending an idea or proposal does not create any duty of confidentiality or payment. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in each email.

7. Patient stories and testimonials

Patient stories on this site are shared with the permission of the people involved. Some are shortened for clarity, and names or details may be left out to protect privacy. Each story is one person’s experience. It is not typical of every patient, and it is not a promise or guarantee of any outcome. Results vary from person to person.

8. Other sites and embedded services

This site links to and embeds content from other services, such as YouTube videos, an Instagram reel and links to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, Substack and Reddit. When you play an embedded video or follow a link, that service’s own terms and privacy policy apply. Dr. Yaranov does not control those services and is not responsible for their content, practices or availability. A link is not an endorsement.

9. Views are his own

The opinions on this site, in the newsletter and on Dr. Yaranov’s social media are his own. They do not represent the views of any hospital, health system, university, employer, professional society or other organization he works with or is affiliated with. Mentioning a hospital, program or publication does not mean it endorses this site.

10. No warranties

The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. Dr. Yaranov works to keep the content accurate, but medical knowledge keeps changing, guidelines get updated and new research appears. Some information may be out of date, simplified or incomplete by the time you read it, and research summaries are not a replacement for the original publications. To the extent the law allows, all warranties are disclaimed, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non infringement. There is no promise that the site will always be available, secure or free of errors.

11. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent allowed by Illinois law, Dr. Yaranov will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss or harm that comes from using or relying on the site, its content, the newsletter or any linked or embedded service. This includes decisions about your health made without your own doctor. If he is found liable for anything despite these terms, his total liability to you will not exceed one hundred US dollars (US$100). Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law.

12. Indemnity

If you misuse the site or break these terms, and that leads to a claim against Dr. Yaranov, you agree to cover the reasonable losses and costs that result, including reasonable legal fees, to the extent the law allows.

13. Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains what information the site collects, including through the contact form, the newsletter and embedded services, and how it is used. It is part of these terms.

14. Governing law and where disputes are heard

These terms, and any dispute about them or about this site, are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any lawsuit must be brought only in the state courts located in Cook County, Illinois, or in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and you and Dr. Yaranov both agree to the jurisdiction of those courts. Before filing anything, please email first so you can try to sort it out informally. The site is run from the United States. If you use it from another country, you are responsible for following your local laws.

15. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always show when they last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.

16. Severability and entire agreement

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed only as much as needed, and the rest of the terms will stay in full effect. Not enforcing a part of these terms right away does not mean giving it up.

These terms, together with the Medical Disclaimer and the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Dr. Yaranov about your use of this site. They replace any earlier terms. A separate written agreement, for example for a speaking or consulting engagement, will govern that engagement.

17. Contact

These terms are provided for transparency and are not legal advice.
